The course English Literature: From Origins to the 18th Century explores key periods and significant literary works, starting from Old English literature and Beowulf, through Medieval literature and Chaucer, to the Renaissance era with Shakespeare, and concluding with Neoclassical literature featuring Defoe, Richardson, and Swift. Each unit includes an anthology exemplifying English literary heritage, inviting students into realms of intellectual inquiry and aesthetic appreciation. This study is crucial for EFL students as it enhances language proficiency, cultural understanding, critical thinking, and analytical skills through exposure to diverse vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, historical contexts, and thought-provoking themes.
